The Purpose for My Life
The Purpose for My Life
With nearly 8 billion people on the planet, it's easy to feel small and insignificant, just a speck in a sea of diverse people in a large world. Do you wonder if you can make any impact at all? Do you ever wonder what your purpose is? Let’s take a look and see what the Bible has to say about your life and the purpose God has for you.
In the Beginning
Before we look at the purpose of your life, let’s go back and take a look at what the Bible says about the beginning of the world and how your life ties into it.
The Bible begins by telling us that God created the heavens and the earth. It goes on to say that He also created everything on the earth, including man and then woman. Consider how all of these things are intricately designed to work together to sustain every kind of life on the planet. That is how incredibly powerful and creative God is.
Now let’s look at your beginning:
“For you (God) created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” - Psalms 139:13-14
This means that it wasn’t just by chance you are here. The God who created the universe thought of, designed, and wanted you.
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you." - Jeremiah 1:5
Not only did God design and want you, but He also consecrated you. You are designed to be here, you are important, and God has a purpose for you.
So What Is My Purpose?
“He predestined us for adoption to Himself as sons and daughters through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of His will.” - Ephesians 1:5
The Bible may not spell out all the little details of God’s purpose for you. But you were made with specific characteristics and unique gifts and talents to help you fulfill the purpose for which you were created. You can pray and ask God to reveal those things to you.
Love God and Worship Him
“Jesus replied, ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.’” - Matthew 22:37
God has purposed you to love Him and to please Him with your worship.
“For it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.” - Philippians 2:13
God made you for His pleasure. Part of your purpose is to worship Him.
Love Others
“Love your neighbor as yourself.” - Matthew 22:39
Because God has purposed us to love Him, and He loves everyone, we are instructed to love others as He loves us.
“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” - John 15:12
Love God. Love Others. He Will Reveal the Rest.
“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.” - Romans 8:28
The beauty of God and His purpose for your life is that you don’t have to know every detail. Love Him and love others. Then follow Him as He leads you, and the purpose for your life unfolds.
